My Personal Experience

I remember the moment I realized I was being emotionally manipulated. My ex would go silent for 48 to 72 hours, claiming he was “processing” his emotions. It was always the same pattern—he’d pick fights over the smallest things, usually when I was just trying to set a boundary or ask for basic communication. And then, he’d disappear without a plan for fixing things or even a timeline for when he’d be ready to talk.

That silence would send me into a spiral. I was already struggling with panic disorder and battling anxiety and depression. I turned to alcohol, believing that the only way to feel better was for him to come back and make everything okay. But let me tell you, that was a mistake!

What I’ve learned is that I am the one in control of my own experience. I don’t have to accept that kind of behavior. I can validate my own needs and respect myself. So, to that toxic cycle—BOY BYEEEE!
